Brotherly Love - Chapter 103
They had dozed for a few minutes when Adam jumped up, “Shit, we gotta go, baby.”
“No”, Kris whined, “I want to stay here and do that again.”
Adam giggled, “Mm, me too, but we have something else to do first”, he winked, pulling Kris up and out of the bed.
Kris groaned, as the bigger boy pushed him into the bathroom.
Kris smiled at that.
“Just a shower, baby. We have things to do today.”
Kris whined again, but reluctantly let Adam lead him out of the bed and into the bathroom. “So what are we doing today?” He asked as Adam ran the water and then shoved Kris inside the shower, closing the curtain.
“Come in here with me?”
“Nope, I tend to distract you.”
“Wow, think an awful lot of yourself, don’t you?” Kris poked his head through the shower curtain and caught sight of Adam’s nakedness and his breath quickened.
“Yeah, so do you”, he teased. “Hurry, baby.”
“Why, do we have an appointment?” He questioned.
After Kris, Adam jumped in the shower and soon they were out the door and on their way to…
“Where are we going?”
“So, Kris. What’s your favorite kind of car?” Adam asked, ignoring Kris’s question.
He shrugged, “I don’t know. I sort of like the new Ferrari, why?”
Adam snorted, “No, you are not getting a Ferrari.”
“I’m asking you what kind of car you would like, baby.”
“Wait, what? Are you getting me a car? Holy Shit.”
“I hope you mean that in a good way, and yes. I was going to surprise you, but I want to you get something you really like.”
“Adam, you don’t need to buy me a car; that's way too much.”
“I’m living off campus next year, so I’ll need this car, and I need you to be able to come and see me; often”, he winked.
“Oh, I guess that makes sense. Just get me a used car like this one”, he suggested.
“No way, I want my baby in a brand new, safe ride.”
“Aw, you’re too good to me.”
“So, do you trust me?”
“With my life.”
“Good, then let’s do some car shopping”, Adam said as he pulled into the car dealership. Ron met them in the parking lot.
“Dad? What are you doing here?”
“You don’t think I’d let my teenage son buy a car and not help him pick it out, do you?”
“Nah. Thanks, Dad.”
“I’m just here to make sure you end up with something safe and get a good deal.”
“Dad doesn’t want the salesman trying to rip us off.”
“Exactly. Well, come on Kris and let’s have a look around.”
As they were walking up to the lot, one of the salesmen came out to greet them. “Hello Adam”, the man said, like he knew him. “This must be Kris.”
Kris smiled warily, and shook his hand. “So, you come here often Adam?”
He chuckled, “Yeah baby. Mr. Dawson had been helping me narrow down some choices for you.”
“Yes, do you want to see what we came up with?”
“Definitely”, Kris smiled at his amazing boyfriend.
“Ok, Kris, we narrowed it down to a few for you to choose from…”
“Whoa”, Kris interrupted, seeing the shiny black truck and then Adam nudged him over to the cuter, sleeker sports sedan. “Oh wow.”
“See, I knew he’d have trouble deciding.”
“Tell you what, Kris. I’m going to leave you to walk around and really look at each one, then I’ll come back in about fifteen minutes and we can do some test drives. How’s that sound?”
“Sounds awesome, thank you.”
Mr. Dawson just winked and left the three Martin’s to it.
Adam and Ron stood back and let Kris take a look at each of the vehicles. He kept going back to the truck, though and Adam just nodded. He had a thought that would be Kris’s favorite, even though he was hoping Kris would love the sportier car.
Kris paced back and forth, rubbing the back of his neck, like he always did. “Kris?”
“This is hard.”
“It doesn’t have to be, baby. Which is your favorite? Which can you see yourself in?”
“I want to drive them.”
Ron nodded at Mr. Dawson who’d been standing about twenty feet away to give them space. “Alright, Kris, which one first?”
Kris pointed to the blue sedan which surprised both Ron and Adam.
“Ok Kris, here’s the keys. Let’s take it for a spin.”
Adam and Ron got in the backseat while Mr. Dawson climbed in the passenger seat and Kris got behind the wheel.
They test drove about six automobiles, leaving the black truck for last. Kris frowned as he sat inside, looking behind him. There was no back seat. “Uh…”
“That’s ok, baby. We’ll wait here”, he told Kris.
“Actually Adam, why don’t you go with Kris and I’ll stay here with your dad.”
“Really?” Adam smiled, eagerly.
Mr. Dawson just waved Adam over to the truck.
Adam watched Kris turn the key and then play with the controls, getting used to the various buttons. Kris’s face was lit up and Adam knew that this was the one even before they pulled out.
The little sports truck had a sunroof that Adam opened while they were driving. “Holy shit, baby. This is so cool.”
“I know, and there’s a built in GPS, look.” Then he sighed, “No backseat, though.”
Adam raised his eyebrow, thinking that Kris was talking about having a place for…
“There’s the whole truck bed. Way more comfortable, actually...”
“Adam, that’s not what I was talking about”, Kris snickered, reading his boyfriend’s dirty mind.
“Oh, you mean we can only fit the two of us.”
“Yeah, what about our family?”
“I don’t think that will really be an issue. Usually it’s just the two of us anyway.”
“Kris, I want you to get the car you want. This is really cool and you look great in it.”
“Which would you get, Adam?”
“The sports car”, Adam quickly replied.
“But that’s me. This is you.”
By the time they got back to the dealership, Ron and Mr. Dawson were already inside doing the paperwork.
“I love it.”
“Come on, we’re almost finished.”
“Huh? But how did you know which one I’d pick.”
All three men laughed and soon Kris joined in. It had been pretty obvious right from the beginning.
Adam paid cash for the car, and Mr. and Mrs. Martin were adding it to their insurance policy as their gift to Kris. “Thank you so much dad”, Kris hugged Ron. “And mom too.”
“You’re welcome Kris”, Ron hugged his son back and then turned him over to his widely grinning other son, who couldn’t wait to have Kris alone.
“Now, you two come home soon, so you can show off your new present to your mom.”
“Ok dad”, they both promised.
“Adam”, Ron pulled him into a hug and thanked him for what he did for Kris.
“I’d do anything for him.”
“I know that. We’ll see you soon, son.”
“We have two cars”, Kris realized, as the held the keys in his hand. He wanted to drive Adam in his new truck.
“Follow me home, baby, then the rest of the day, you can do all the driving”, Adam suggested.
Kris nodded, emphatically.
They were home in fifteen minutes and Ron and Pam were waiting for them in the kitchen. They heard the boys pull up and they both ran out to meet them.
“Oh Kris”, Pam squealed. “It’s gorgeous.”
“Mom, it’s a truck.”
“Well, it’s still gorgeous. Do you love it?”
“I really do mom. And thank you, too.”
“Well, it’s the least we can do. Now, you need to promise me that you'll be safe, Kristopher.”
“He will”, Adam interrupted.
“Whatever”, Adam rolled his eyes.
“Ok Kris, why don’t you follow your dad and meet us at the restaurant.”
“Where are we going?”
“Japanese Steakhouse”, Adam said, beaming.
“You’re way too good to me.”
“Well, this one is our treat”, Pam corrected.
“You guys, too”, Kris gave both of his parents a hug. Just then, the kitchen door opened, and out flew Chelsey, followed by Brent. Chelsey practically knocked Kris over, hugging him.
“Oh my God, you guys are home?”
“Of course, we wouldn’t miss your birthday. Kris.”
“Did you see my present from Adam?”
“Wow, man. This is so cool”, Brent said, walking around, inspecting the new truck.
They all spent a few more minutes admiring Kris’s new birthday present until Ron finally spoke up. “I don’t know about you guys, but I’m starving.”
Everyone agreed and they took off to the restaurant.
Adam watched Kris drive, his joy showing all over his face. “I love you, Kris.”
Kris turned his head and smiled. “I love you. And, I love my present, Adam.”
“I’m glad, baby.”
They pulled into the parking lot just after Ron and they all piled out of the vehicles. When they got inside, Ron gave the hostess their name and they were seated right away. Since they were such a large group, they got a table to themselves.
“What are getting, baby?”
“Lobster”, Kris exclaimed.
“Of course”, everyone laughed.
“Mm, that sounds good.”
They enjoyed the show that went along with their meal, as they always did. Adam’s favorite was still the onion volcano. Kris’s was having the shrimp flung into his mouth.
When dinner was over, the waitress brought out a special birthday treat for Kris and they sung happy birthday to him. He was thoroughly embarrassed, but loved that his family did this for him.
“I love you guys, so much”, he told them. He couldn’t imagine life without any of them.
“So, we got you something, too”, Chelsey said, handing Kris a box from her and Brent.
“Wow guys, you didn’t have to do this
Chelsey chuckled, “Yes we did. Now, open it.”
Kris grabbed the box and ripped the paper from it, and removed the lid. Inside the tissue paper was a pair of driving sunglasses and a keychain for his new truck keys. “Oh wow”, Kris exclaimed as he lifted the sunglasses and keychain out of the box and held them up. “I love them.” Kris put on the sunglasses and posed for Adam.
“Yeah Kris”, Chelsey agreed.
“I picked out the keychain”, Brent told his brother.
“Oh man, this is so cool.” Attached to the chain was a metal guitar in silver and red, a silver cleft-note and the words “Rock n Roll”, in silver, red and blue. Kris beamed. "Thanks, guys."
"There's something else, too Kris."
"What?" Kris dug through the tissue paper and found a gift card for gas.
"We just wanted to help."
"Thanks everyone. This has been a great birthday."
Everyone said 'your welcomes' to Kris.
"Baby, it's not over yet."
"There's more?" He asked suspiciously.
"Of course. Your party."
"I hope you don't mind the band is playing."
"Of course not, I love playing."
"We're coming too", Brent informed them.
The family finished their dinner and then Adam and Kris left for the storage unit that still housed their 'band', and Brent and Chelsey followed them.
Dani, Allison and Lucy had spent the rest of the afternoon getting everything ready. Adam had the food delivered and there were plenty of beverages. Most everyone was still under twenty one, so they weren't serving any alcohol, but there was an unwritten rule, so most brought their own, but kept it discrete.
The guests had started arriving when Kris and Adam got there. The band was already warming up. It didn't take long for the party to get into full swing.
"Baby, you ready to play?"
"Yeah", and Kris ran up to the 'stage' and grabbed his guitar. "Happy Birthday, Kris", the band members all came up to him and patted him on the back. Allison found him and accosted him. "Happy Birthday", and she gave him a peck on the lips. "Thanks, Alli, for everything."
A few minutes later, Adam came up to the mike and after getting each band member's nod, he spoke. "Hey everyone."
He waited for the shouts whoops of acknowledgement to subside.
"Thanks for coming tonight to celebrate Kris's birthday with us."
There were more shouts of "Happy Birthday", and "We Love you Kris".
Adam chuckled into the microphone. "I love you too baby", he winked at Kris who blew him a kiss.
"Are you all ready to Rock?"
More shouts and whistles and then Adam interrupted. "I said! ARE YOU READY TO ROCK?"
And the band went into the song "I Wanna Rock" by Twisted Sister.
They'd been practicing that one and they sounded amazing. Adam's voice wailed as their audience cheered.
After a few more numbers, Adam let the band play a jam while he grabbed a chair. When they were done playing, Adam put the chair on the stage and led Kris to it, taking his guitar from him and handing it to Tommy.
"What are you doing?" Kris asked.
"Have a seat, baby."
Their friends gathered towards the front waiting for what was going to happen next.
"I have a special song for our birthday boy", Adam told the crowd as the band began playing happy birthday.
Kris raised his eyebrows as Adam began to sing the lyrics, very seductively, sauntering around Kris's chair.
Kris had a huge smile on his face, but this was so hokey.
"Ok, ok. I'm just kidding", Adam told everyone.
Tommy nodded and began playing something that Kris hadn't heard before. The rest of the band joined in, and then Adam began to sing a slow ballad, just to Kris.
Kris sat there, mesmerized, as well as their friends in the audience as Adam poured his heart and soul out, hitting notes that were out of this world.
When the song was finished, Kris stood up and they kissed. Then Tommy broke the silence with, “Happy Birthday, Kris. Hope you liked your song.”
Kris just nodded, not taking his eyes off of Adam.
Then Tommy continued, “Alright, how ‘bout some more ROCK!” And Kris had the bass in his hand, and Adam began sauntering around the stage to be opening of …
Afterwards, Dani put the stereo on, so the music wouldn’t stop and then band put away their instruments and rejoined the party.
“Adam, that was incredible”, Chelsey told him, hugging him.
“You know, you really are a rock star.”
“She’s right, Adam.” Kris said.
Adam scooped him up into a hug. “I love you so much, baby. Happy Birthday, Kris.”
Kris beamed. This had been the best birthday ever.
