Title: Brotherly Love - Chapter 93
Word Count: 2289
Rating: NC-17/R for the whole story
This never happened, just in my imagination, based on real people, I don't own them. Amanda is mine, I love that woman. The Martins are mine, too.
Warnings: underage sex, m/m sex, mention of underage prostitution and child abuse/neglect, homophobia.
Kris has been in the same foster family since he was three. He's a very happy, well adjusted child, but beginning to feel different. Adam is a troubled teen, in and out of group and foster homes and on the street, forced to do things, no child should ever have to go through.
This is the story of them. A Kradam Love Story.
This is a lot different that anything else I've written, there will be some angst. It will break your heart at times, it did mine, but bear with me, it definitely get's better and happier and eventually sexier. I have no idea how long it will be, around 100 chapters. I'll try an update once or twice a week. I hope you enjoy it, please comment, it makes me happy.
Brotherly Love - Chapter 93
Kris and the Martin’s had gotten to the university auditorium early and had seats in the forth row, near the left center of the stage. All three of them were beaming with pride. Kris had seen rehearsal enough times, but this would be the first time he’d see Adam in full costume. He squirmed in his seat until the lights came down, clutching his mom’s hand.
About ten minutes later, the lights went low and then Ms. Fisher walked onto stage in a long flowing black dress with the curtain still closed behind her to give a short introduction of both the musical and the drama program at the college. When she was finished, she continued off the stage while the audience applauded and then the curtain came up.
The opening scene finds Roger and Mark in their apartment. Mark is shooting a documentary in their living room, and Roger is playing his guitar, trying to write the perfect song…
Kris is watching the two interact on stage. Kenny really is a very good actor, he notices. But Kris is looking for something; any indication that Kenny is anything but straight. Then he wonders why it’s so important to him. He shrugs. He’s Devon’s problem, not mine. He doesn’t really believe that. Why did Kenny kiss Adam?
Before he realizes it, Adam appears, beating the scaffolding set up on the stage with his drum sticks. The actor playing Tom is sitting on the ground, having just been mugged, outside of Mark and Roger’s apartment. Then Adam belts out “You ok honey?” and he and Tom have their scene together, and then they walk off the stage, the stage lights dimming.
The audience applauds loudly, as the next scene begins…
Kris is completely mesmerized. Angel was dressed in men’s clothing for this first scene, but with heavy makeup. Kris always thought that Adam looked best without anything on his face, but he was absolutely gorgeous up on that stage. He also knew that Adam was too big for this small part. One more year, he thought to himself, and then he and Adam can begin the life that Adam’s supposed to have. Kris didn’t realize the tear that had fallen down his cheek. His mom squeezed his hand tighter.
When Adam appears on the stage in drag, Kris’s breath hitched. He’s wearing a black wig and tights. Damn, he has long legs, is all that Kris can think of at the moment. Adam begins his second number, ‘Tomorrow for Me’. He sings it brilliantly and the way he slinks across the stage? Kris can’t help but smile. The audience explodes in applause when he’s finished.
Before Kris knows it, the lights go up and there’s a short intermission. Kris gets up to stretch and get something to drink.
The second act begins with ‘Season’s of Love’. Adam’s in the next few scenes and Kris is getting edgy because he knows what’s coming.
Angel’s ‘death’ is spectacular as Adam belts out ‘Contact’ and then he’s gone. Pam tightens her grip on Kris’s hand. It would have hurt if Kris wasn’t so tense himself. It’s only a play, but both of them are fighting the tears. Adam plays it perfectly.
The next scene is Angel’s funeral, and then the rest of the play continues. Kris can’t wait for the last company number when Adam comes out on stage again. It’s just reassuring.
They begin the finale. The entire company gathers on the stage, singing the last number. Kris waits… And then his ‘Angel’ comes out with wild applause from the audience.
Adam joins the rest of the company and they finish the song and lead into the curtain call as each of the actors take their bow to a standing ovation from the crowd. Of course, Mark gets the most applause, as his character is the main lead, but Adam’s comes in a very near second.
Once the lights come up, the audience files out of the auditorium into the lobby to wait for the cast to come out in full costume to greet everyone. While Kris and his parents are waiting for Adam, Kris notices Kenny strutting into the crowd. He immediately finds some admirers and appears to be back to his arrogant self. A few minutes later, Devon comes out and glances in Kenny’s direction, but stays away, immediately swarmed by a group of girls. Kris wonders what that means, if anything.
He soon forgets all about Kenny and Devon, when Adam finally appears. He sees Kris and the Martin’s immediately and runs over, pulling Kris into a hug. “I’m so glad you’re here”, he says to everyone, but is looking only at Kris.
“Oh Adam”, Pam hugs them both, because Kris has attached himself to Adam and it’s easier than trying to pry him away. “You were just wonderful, sweetie.”
Ron reiterated that comment, also hugging the two boys.
A few minutes later, Devon came over and Adam introduced him to his family.
“We’ve heard so much about you, Devon”, Pam said warmly to him. “It’s very nice to meet you.”
Both Martin parents shook his hand. “Thank you. It’s really nice to meet you too.” Devon notices a formal line of the actors forming and nudges Adam to join him.
“I’ll see you in a while, baby?” Adam kissed Kris on the cheek and followed Devon over to the entrance of the auditorium where the other cast members were greeting the crowd. They stood next to ‘Tom’ and ‘Maureen’, with Kenny heading the front of the line.
“So what’s up with you and Kenny?” Adam confronted Devon as they were starting to shake hands with the reception line.
Devon shook his head, “Nothing, I told you before.”
“Then why are you avoiding each other?” Adam observed.
“We’re not”, he answered, unconvincingly.
“Hmm.” Adam let it go. “Hello”, he said smiling, shaking the next person in line’s hand as they moved on between the cast members.
By the time the Martin’s had made their way to the line, Adam’s hand was numb from having it shook so much.
“Hi mom”, Adam greeting her again.
“Oh Adam”, she gave him another hug.
“Thanks mom”, Adam blushed.
“Devon, nice to see you again”, she giggled. It had only been twenty minutes. “You played guitar so well. You know Kris plays, too?”
“Yes, I do.” Devon smiled, glancing at Kris who was blushing in several shades of crimson about now and rolling his eyes.
Adam gave him a wink, and instead of shaking Kris’s hand, he pulled him out of the line to stand next to him. “Stay with me”, he whispered.
The Martins moved along and were finally at the end of the line. “You were just fabulous”, they said to ‘Mark’, as they shook his hand.
“Thank you”, he said, arrogantly.
“We’re Adam’s parents”, Pam announced. “Oh, I mean ‘Angel’s.”
Kenny nodded in recognition and then looked over at Adam who had his free arm around Kris. He looked back at the grinning duo in front of him. “Nice to meet you”, he replied.
Afterward everyone had gone through the line; the cast broke up and went backstage to change. Adam and Kris found their parents so Kris could get a ride home with them.
“I’ll see you tomorrow, baby.”
“Yeah”, Kris didn’t want to leave, but he had school in the morning.
“Chelsey and Brent are going to try and make tomorrow’s performance, Adam.”
“Oh great, I thought they weren’t coming in till Saturday.”
“You know Chelsey.”
“Yeah”, that made Adam smile.
His family left and then Adam went to find Tommy who was back stage putting his guitar away and chatting with some guys from the pit.
“You were great, Adam”, Tommy said to his friend.
Everyone in the group reiterated that. They all liked Adam. He wasn’t pretentious like some of the actors.
“Thanks, guys.” After he had changed into street clothes and arranged his costumes back on the rack, Adam and Tommy walked back to their dorm, stopping along the way for a late night snack.
Adam got through his classes the next morning and then headed right over to the theatre for that evening’s performance. They had brought in dinner backstage for the performers and the pit, so everyone could eat together before getting ready for the show.
He’d already heard from Kris. Chelsey and Brent had skipped their classes and were home even before Kris got out of school. ‘She can’t wait to see you in tights and a skirt’, Kris texted.
Grinning, Adam put his phone away and started to put on his makeup.
Kenny sat next to him and pretended not to notice him. This was getting ridiculous. Adam waited for him to finish and then leaned in so only Kenny could hear him.
Kenny watched Adam through the mirror, but waited for him to speak. “I don’t care if you’re gay or straight”, he began.
“Just don’t fuck with Devon’s heart, alright?” He warned. Then Adam stood up and walked away, leaving a bewildered Kenny staring at himself in the mirror.
“Ten Minutes”, screamed Ms. Fisher.
There was a swarm of activity as the actors got into their first costumes and did final makeup touches.
Word of the first night’s performance had gotten around campus. There was nearly twice the number of people in the audience than the previous night; both college kids and families, since it was Friday night. The Martin’s arrived with Chelsey and Brent. They’d met Tanner and a very pregnant Amanda in the lobby. That was going to be a surprise for Adam. He hadn’t seen her in a few weeks.
When the doors to the auditorium open, the Martins find their seats and wait for the performance to begin.
Adam was backstage with some of the other cast members during the opening scene, waiting for his first appearance. He could hear Kenny and Devon performing on stage. They sounded great during the first number. He heard the applause as the scene in the apartment ended and then the audience sees ‘Tom’, who’s just been mugged…
That’s Adam’s queue, he walks on the stage tapping his drumsticks…
The audience applauds as he exits the stage and has time to change into ‘Angel’. Adam takes his time putting on the tights and shoes that were chosen just for him. The skirt is a little ‘loud’, but the play does take place in the eighties; Adam chuckles at himself and waits for the next scene where Tom takes him to Mark and Roger’s apartment and introduces him to his friends.
This is Adam’s favorite number, ‘Tomorrow for me’. He gets to dance around and be sexy. As he’s moving around the stage and singing to the audience, he sees his entire family in the audience. Adam learned long ago, to not let anything distract him from acting, so he continues singing, but with a bigger smile on his face. He does a couple of sexy moves that are just for Kris. But, only Kris and he are the wiser.
When his song is over, the audience roars. Adam loves the sound. But, mostly he loves the look on his boyfriend’s face. He can’t wait to see Kris and fuck that look right off later tonight. Smirking, Adam exits off the stage.
He goes backstage to change outfits and have a bottle of water. It’s intermission, so he’s soon joined by the rest of the cast who are chatting wildly about the performance so far.
“Devon”, Adam called out to his friend.
“Adam, God this is incredible.”
“You’re doing an amazing job.”
“Thanks. Um, where’s Kenny?”
Adam pointed to stage left, where Kenny just entered.
“See ya, Adam.”
“Yeah”, he chuckled. Tommy came over and sat next to Adam, taking the water that Adam offered him.
“You’re whole family’s here, Adam. Did you see them?”
“Yeah, hard to miss, you know?” He feigned embarrassment.
“You love it.”
Adam snorted, “Yeah, I do.”
“Come on, super star”, Tommy coaxed, just as Ms. Fisher yelled, “Ok, places everyone.”
Adam’s sang his last number, ‘Contact’, directly to the audience, well, mainly to Kris. It’s dramatic and gorgeous and then it’s over. Adam lays on the table in ‘death’, as the characters swarm around him. He can hear the silence of the audience. They are mesmerized.
The next scene is the funeral, and then Adam is back stage. He won’t appear until the last scene and company number, and then he comes out last. That scene got loud applause the night before, and he’s hoping for a similar reaction tonight.
He touches up his makeup and put on his ‘boy’ outfit again, waiting for his cue…
The ‘Finale B’ begins with the entire company. About half way through, Adam gets his cue and walks on stage, singing along with the rest of the cast. The audience goes wild in applause as they get to see ‘Angel’ again. He sits down in front as they finish the number...
Then it’s time for the curtain call. Adam’s applause is nuts, as he takes a bow, smiling at the audience, but eyes on his family. It’s then that he notices Amanda and Tanner, clapping and cheering loudly. He could see the pride in Amanda’s eyes and it made his heart sing.
The lights came up and the audience, still clapping, filed out into the lobby to wait for the cast to appear. The Martin’s are huddled together, talking about the show. Tanner mentioned that his brother would love a taping of the production. “You know he thinks that Adam could be a huge Broadway star.”
“Let’s get him through college first”, Pam urged.
Adam came out a few minutes later and was enveloped in hugs from the entire Martin clan as well as Amanda and Tanner. Amanda was standing with her hand on her protruding tummy. “You look amazing”, Adam hugged her gently. “Thanks, Adam.”
He didn’t want to go when it was time for the reception line, but he knew that he had to. “Don’t leave?” He begged Amanda.
“We’ll be right here, sweetie”, she assured him.
Afterwards, Ron suggested that they have a late dinner in town. Everyone agreed even though they were tired; they weren’t ready for the night to end just yet.
Adam went back stage and got changed, finding Tommy. “Hey, we’re all going out to eat. Join us?”
Tommy beamed, “Yeah, I’d like that.”
Then the two friends walked back to the lobby to meet Adam’s family. Adam reached for Kris’s hand and then gave him a quick kiss. “Ready?”
