Brotherly Love - Chapter 106
The alarm went off too early, and Adam was glad to smell the aroma of coffee coming from the kitchen. “You’re up early mom”, Adam said, grabbing a steaming cup.
“I want us to get an early start. We have a big day planned”, she smiled, happily. Shortly afterwards, the rest of the family came slowly piling into the kitchen, yawning and stretching.
“Coffee smells wonderful, Pam”, Ron gave his wife a peck on the cheek.
“Well, everyone grab a cup and then let’s get ready to go”, Pam urged them all.
“Where to first?” Chelsey asked.
“Breakfast in the Magic Kingdom; we have reservations at the Crystal Palace”, Ron announced.
“Yay, I’m starving”, Kris yawned, slowly sipping on his decaf coffee, unenthusiastically.
The Martin clan met outside and walked over to the bus stop and waited for the shuttle to drive them directly to the Magic Kingdom. Ron had given each of them their own park hopper pass and dining card so if they separated, everyone would still be able to get around and eat.
The bus picked them up and made a few other stops at other hotels and then drove directly to the park. The entrance to the Magic Kingdom was grand. There were two lines, one with passes and one for getting tickets. They got in the pass line and it moved pretty quickly and then they were headed down Main Street, USA.
"Wow, look at that", Ron pointed to a classic horse drawn street car that was carrying passengers.
"Hey, a fire engine, too", Kris noticed. "We need to do that."
"We'll have time for that later, first, let's find the restaurant", Ron urged.
"Oh look", Chelsey squealed, "Cinderella's Castle."
"Here it is", Pam said, as they finally saw their destination. They walked inside of the Crystal Palace and were greeted by a very perky hostess who led them over to a spacious table not too near the buffet. "Too much commotion when the characters come out", she told them, motioning to the hoards of small children waiting to see their favorite Pooh characters.
“Thank you”, Pam said, sitting down at the wooden table, appreciating the advice from her.
The waiter came over afterwards to get their drink orders and explain the buffet and how the character meet and greets worked. “In case you’re so inclined”, he winked.
“Hey, I want to meet Tigger”, Chelsey squealed. “What?” She replied to the stared from her three brothers. “Whatever”, she rolled her eyes, standing up and following her parents to the buffet, with the Martin boys close behind, snickering.
“Wow, this looks amazing”, Pam said of the fancy spread of breakfast foods, including ham, bacon and sausage with different kinds of eggs as well as waffles, breads and various fruits. They walked around, plates in hand, deciding what to pile on.
Their drinks had arrived by the time everyone got back to their seats, and then they watched the kids in the restaurant scramble as the Pooh characters began to arrive. “Aw, look”, Pam noticed this small girl, tugging on her mom’s pant leg to let her go and meet them.
“Hey look, it’s those little girls from the bus yesterday”, Adam saw the two run over to greet Piglet. They were getting their picture taken when the little one noticed Adam. Her mouth opened wide and she got squirmy, like she couldn’t get away fast enough.
“Adam, Kris”, she called, waving and then running over to them. “You came.”
“Hey Sophie”, Adam said, crouching down to greet the little girl.
“You remembered my name”, she squealed.
“Of course, I did”.
“Gwen, look”, she turned around to get her sister’s attention.
She got this big smile on her face and ran over.
“Girls”, their mother called. “What in the?”
“Hi Gwendolyn”, Adam greeted the older sister.
“See, you said they wouldn’t come”, Sophie pouted, folding her arms.
“Girls”, their mom repeated, “I’m sorry”, she said to Adam, just before recognizing him. “Oh, you’re the boys from the bus”, she recollected.
“Yes, ma’am, nice to meet you, I’m Adam and this is Kris”, he said pointing to his reluctant boyfriend. “And this is our family.”
They all made their acquaintances, shaking hands and then went back to eating.
“The girls, especially this one”, she pointed to little Sophie, “haven’t stopped talking about you since yesterday.”
“Aw, that’s sweet.”
“Do you want to go on rides with us?” The younger sister asked him.
“Oh, I don’t know”, he shrugged, not knowing the correct answer.
“Girls”, their mom interjected, “We need to let Adam and his family finish eating, and we need to start, so maybe another time?”
“Ok”, that seemed to settle her, at least for now.
She hugged Adam and then waved goodbye to Kris. “That’s Kris, Adam’s boyfriend”, she announced.
“I know, you told me, Sophie”, she looked apologetically at Adam.
“We’ll see you later, ok?” Adam told the small children.
“Ok, Adam. Bye”, they both waved and followed their mom back to their table. “Wow, we saw Piglet and Adam”, she said, excitedly.
“Wow”, Kris giggled, when Adam rejoined the family. “You have quite the fan base of little girls, don’t you, baby?”
“Whatever.”
“No, I’m impressed, too Adam”, Brent chuckled.
“Well I think it’s adorable”, Chelsey defended her middle brother. “You rank up right there with Piglet”, she laughed as well.
Adam ignored them and their snickers and concentrated on his food.
“Aw, you know I love your charm, right baby?” Kris tried to make up.
“Uh huh”, he wasn’t letting him off the hook that easily. “Just for that, you’re getting your picture taken with me and the next character that comes anywhere near our table”, he threatened.
“What?” That wasn’t part of the plan, he thought.
“Well, if you don’t want to”, it was Adam’s turn to pout.
“Come on”, Kris nudged him, taking his hand. They got in the small line for Eeyore.
“Really, this guy?”
“Yeah, he was always my favorite pooh character”, Kris confessed.
“I never would have guessed”, Adam giggled. They were next in line and they stood on either side of the sad donkey, and smiled, as the sweet character put his arm around each of them as their picture was taken.
Chelsey had tracked down Tigger and gave him a huge hug. He flirted a little with her and then they took the picture. She was beaming all the way back to the table.
“Wow, I feel like I deprived you all when you were little”, Pam teased her children.
“I don’t think I would have appreciated it as much”, Chelsey let her mom off the hook.
“Well, eat up everyone, we have a lot to do today”, Ron informed the group.
After breakfast they headed over to Adventure Land and first hit the Swiss Family’s Tree House with all of its steps and elaborate rooms, then the Enchanted Tiki Room with the animated birds and finally the jungle cruise and Pirates of the Caribbean. “Remember this”, Adam reminisced on their trip to Disney Land. It had most of the same attractions as here, but they enjoyed them just as much the second time.
Then they headed over to Frontier Land to ride the huge log flume, Splash Mountain. Adam and Kris rode up front with Chelsey and Brent in the middle and their parents taking up the rear. The ride was pleasant enough at first and they toured around the adventures of Song of the South in their boat. But soon, they were travelling upwards and then they were at the top, travelling down the huge waterfall. Ron and Pam managed only to get a little splashed, the older kids a little more, but Adam and Kris got drenched, laughing the entire way down. “Oh man”, Adam said, getting out of the ride, dripping wet. “We need to get you two dried off”, Pam told them.
“Mom, we’ll be fine. I bet we’ll be dried off in no time.” Fortunately, as they were walking out, they passed a restroom, so the boys could use the automatic dryers and warm themselves up a bit. Chelsey and Brent decided they could use some drying off as well and Ron and Pam felt you could never be too dry either.
Afterwards, they made their way over to the Big Thunder roller coaster. Pam and Ron opted out of that one and told the kids to meet them on Tom Sawyer Island when they were finished with the ride. “Have fun”, Pam called out, and then the older Martins headed over to their destination. They were both looking forward to a little down time, just the two of them. Even at their children’s ages, they still have much more energy than their parents.
Pam and Ron walked over towards the attraction and stopped at a snow cone stand along the way, finding a bench to sit at. “This is nice”, Ron said, putting his arm around his wife.
“It’s a shame that we never brought the kids here when they were younger, though.”
“Well, we did have the beach, and they’ve always loved that.”
“I know.”
“Maybe we can go with their kids one day?”
“Whose kids?” Pam asked confused.
Ron shrugged, “I’m sure at least one of our children will have kids of their own one day.”
“I hope so.”
They finished their cones and walked up to the Tom Sawyer Island attraction. “Wow, this is amazing”, they said as they boarded the raft that would take them over to the island. “Ron, look”, Pam pointed to the open water and all of the trees that surrounded the attraction. When the raft stopped, they got off and then made their way onto the first trail. “Will they be able to find us?”
“Text them, and tell them to meet us…” Ron looked at the map that was located on the side. “… at Potter’s Mill.”
“Okay”, Pam pulled out her phone and texted Chelsey, and then put the phone away as they headed on their adventure.
~~~~
“Man, that was awesome”, Brent shouted as they came out of the ride. “We should do that again.”
“Yeah, maybe after I recover”, Adam said, feeling slightly queasy.
“You alright, baby?” Kris asked him.
“Peachy, but hungry.”
“Ok, let’s grab a quick snack on the way to meet mom and dad”, Chelsey said, reading her mom’s text.
“Oh look, there’s funnel cake”, Kris pointed to the stand.
“Baby, I could really just use something to drink.”
“Okay”, Kris conceded. They came across the same snow cone place their parents had. “This is perfect”, Adam headed over, reaching for his wallet. “We don’t use our cards for this, right?”
“No, I have cash”, Chelsey said first.
A few minutes later, they each had a snow cone in their hand and were heading over to Tom Sawyer’s Island to meet their parents. They found the maps posted along the way, and located their destination. “Let’s head this way”, Chelsey pointed to the trail in the left and they headed onward.
Along the way, they walked across the rickety bridges and along the paths. “You sure this is safe?” Adam asked the group as he started to cross.
“I don’t think they’d allow anything unsafe”, Brent snickered.
“It doesn’t look like it’ll hold us.”
“I think that’s the point.”
Adam thought about that for a second and nodded, continuing to cross. “See?” Brent patted his back.
“Yeah, yeah.”
“Kids”, Pam and Ron yelled, standing in front of Potter’s Mill as they saw their children headed towards them.
“Mom, dad”, the Martin kids all called, quickening their steps.
“How was the coaster?” Ron asked them.
“Awesome. So what have you two been up to?”
“Here, take a look, kids”, Ron led them inside the mill where they could see the open river and the rest of the park.
After the mill, they went on a different trail, winding through the rest of the attraction and were finally spilled out near the end.
Everyone was getting worn out and a little hungry. “Ready for lunch?”
“Yeah”, was the collective answer.
“Do you feel like grabbing something quick like a burger, or a sit down meal?”
“Well, I for one would like to get out of the heat and relax”, Pam admitted. “How about the Liberty Tree Tavern?”
“That sounds great, mom. I’d like to have a salad.”
“Do they have seafood?”
Adam snickered, “I don’t know, baby.”
“The directory says American food, buffet style”, Pam read.
“Alright, then”, Kris conceded. He’d get his seafood later. Chelsey was still holding out for some sort of salad.
“Mm, it smells like Thanksgiving in here”, Chelsey said, spotting the plates of turkey and other home-style dishes. She did spot a huge salad bar and was satisfied.
“It looks delicious, I’m starving.”
They were seated in the Thomas Jefferson Room, and the hostess encouraged them to visit all of the rooms to see the historic artifacts. Pam thanked her and then got up to visit the buffet.
This was a much calmer atmosphere than breakfast this morning, because there were not characters milling around attracting the younger guests. Adam and Kris piled their plates with Ribs and Turkey. Even Chelsey got some of the wonderful smelling turkey along with her salad.
They enjoyed their meal and then Pam suggested that they digest their food by walking over to the Liberty Square Riverboat and view the sights they missed over at Frontier Land and learn a little about the period.
After their ride, they headed over to the Hall of Presidents, where they learned a lot about American History.
“Wow, this has been really educational”, Adam chuckled.
“I want to do the Haunted Mansion now”, Kris offered.
They headed over to the next attraction and who did they see running towards them, but Sophie and Gwendolyn. “Girls”, their parents yelled, to no avail and they had to catch up to them.
“Adam, Kris, are you going to the Haunted Mansion?”
“Yeah, are you?” Adam knelt down to greet the giggly girls.
“Can we go with you?” Sophie pleaded, first to the boys, and then to her mom.
“Oh”, Adam turned around to his family, who were all nodding and snickering. “Sure, if it’s alright with your mom”, Adam asked.
“Mom, I want to ride go on this ride with Adam”, Sophie whined, still pulling him along.
Gwendolyn stood in front of Kris, “You’re riding with me”, she informed him.
“Oh, alright”, Kris conceded, still giggling. “It’ll be fun.” He wasn’t sure, but wanted to be a good sport.
“We’ll sit behind those two and make fun of them”, she sneered.
“Aw, that wouldn’t be nice. I can’t make fun of Adam”, he told her.
“Oh, is it because you love him?” She asked, bluntly.
“Yes, that’s exactly why”, he ruffled the small child’s hair.
“I love Sophie, but I still like to make fun of her”, Gwendolyn snickered.
“Yeah ok”, Kris conceded, following the child inside the attraction.
“What are you two plotting?” Adam raised his eyebrow at his boyfriend.
“Oh nothing”, Kris grabbed Gwen’s hand, “You two in front”, Gwen told Adam and Sophie.
“What are you up to?” Adam mouthed to Kris.
He just smiled, taking Gwen’s hand.
Once inside, they were piled into a single room where they were given a small lecture, and then the room opened up to reveal the attraction. They ran to the cars and each grabbed a seat. Adam and Sophie were near the front, with Kris and Gwen directly in the car behind them. “Don’t be scared”, Gwen teased her sister.
“I won’t”, she said bravely, holding Adam’s hand, scooting as close as possible to him.
The ride was fun, as scary things kept floating in front of them. “Adam, look”, Sophie said, when they saw a ghost sitting right behind them, but when she turned around, it wasn’t there.
“It’s just in the mirror”, Adam told her.
“I knew that.”
She heard her sister scream behind her and giggled, “See, she’s the scared one.”
After the ride, they gathered out front. “Wanna go on It’s a Small World next?” Sophie asked the boys.
“Girls, we’re going back to our hotel for a nap, remember?” Their mother reminded them.
“Aw, we’re not tired”, the little girl answered, yawning.
“Well, maybe not, but you promised not to fuss, and then we’ll go for a swim.”
“Yay!”
“See you later?” Gwen asked Adam and Kris.
“I’m sure we will”, Adam told her.
“Ok, bye”, the girls waved to the Martins, while the family chuckled at the boys.
“Well, you two have some admirers”, Pam noticed.
“So what was that all about?” Adam asked Kris about their behavior before the ride.
“Gwen was just having some fun.”
After the girls left, The Martins decided to head back to their villa for a late afternoon swim.
On the way to the Park entrance, they passed a couple of gift shops and a few characters for pictures and by the time they were back on the bus, the group was exhausted and ready for that swim.
