Driving Me Crazy Chapter 4
The next morning, the gang met in the hotel’s lobby restaurant for a buffet breakfast. Kris was sitting with his new friends Kurt and Dillon and across from Tommy and Brian. They stopped talking when Adam came over with Jason by his side. They were holding hands.
Adam took a breath and walked over to the table. He knew what his friends were thinking. He kissed Jason’s cheek and then they sat down next to each other, Tommy and Brian having to slide down one seat to make room for the additional person.
It was too quiet, so Adam decided to explain. “Guess who I found in my room last night when we got back?”
Tommy wanted to spit out an obnoxious answer, but decided against it. “That’s great, Adam. So you two made up?”
“There was nothing to make up for,” Jason answered for Adam.
“Well, I’m glad. We like happy Adam better than…”
Tommy poked Brian in the side.
Adam just smiled and grabbed a plate. “I’m starving, how about you, honey?” He addressed his boyfriend. They both got up to get their food, leaving the group to discuss that scene. “I just don’t get it. He lets that guy make him miserable, and then he just takes him back.”
“He must be really good in bed”, Dillon said.
“Or Adam is,” Kurt retorted, causing both a fit of the giggles and Kris to accidentally groan out loud.
Tommy caught that and smirked to himself. Kris would make a better boyfriend to Adam than that jerk, any day. He wondered if Kris was thinking the same thing.
Adam and Jason came back to the table all smiles and joined in the group’s conversation. The entourage were heading out after breakfast and driving just a couple of hours to the next city. Brian asked Jason if he were coming to the show tonight.
“No, I can’t; gotta work tomorrow. My flight’s in a couple of hours.”
Tommy made the mistake of asking Adam what he had going on in the next city. Adam started to talk about the meet and greet and that immediately triggered something in Jason, whose demeanor changed. “Well, those boys better keep their hands to themselves.”
“Jason, honey. It’s not like that. They’re just fans.”
“Yeah, who all want to sleep with you,” he spat. “Walk me to my car.”
Adam slowly stood up, following Jason out of the hotel.
“God, I hate that guy.” Tommy reiterated everyone else’s feelings.
When Adam came back about ten minutes later, he was back to being sad and quiet. Kris’s heart just broke for the guy.
After they finished breakfast, Dave came over and herded them out to the busses. Kris hopped on first, getting ready to take off. He smiled at each one of the guys as they boarded. It was back to business. He was just the driver.
The entourage arrived in Raleigh a couple of hours later. Adam was taken by car to the local radio station and the guys sat around the kitchen relaxing before it was time to head inside the venue.
Kris didn’t see Adam again until after the show that night. He was super charged again, having had a great performance and then meeting the fans outside. He climbed onto the bus, happy to see Kris. “Great show, Adam?”
“Yeah, thanks Kris.”
Adam walked back to his quarters and got ready for bed. But he had trouble sleeping. Between the energy of performing, and the pissy text he had from Jason, he decided to get up and talk to his favorite bus driver.
Kris had the radio playing and was singing softly to it. He didn’t notice Adam walked towards him until he sat down next to him. “Hey, Kris”
“Oh, Adam. How are you?” He asked, gently.
“I hope you don’t think badly of Jason. He’s really a great guy, it’s just…”
“Hey, it’s none of my business…”
“I know that Tommy and Brian hate him.”
“I think they just worry about you. They want you to be happy.”
“Yeah, I know. I really did have a great time the other night dancing with you.”
“I did too. And I just love Kurt and Dillon.”
“Be careful, those two will try and corrupt you,” he said, jokingly.
“Oh, I know.”
“I’m really glad you’re here, Kris.”
Kris looked over at Adam who was smiling at him and he just melted. He was totally falling for the rock star and he knew that it was wrong. “Me too”
“Well, I better try and get some sleep.”
“Hey Adam?”
“Yeah?”
“I really enjoy our talks.”
“Me too,” he smiled weakly at his driver.
“Good night.”
“Good night, Kris.”
Adam went to bed happy that night. And he dreamed of a brown haired boy with big brown eyes.”
~~~~
Kris drove the rest of the way north to their next stop in New York City. He was so excited; he’d never been there before. He pulled into the venue behind bus number one and waited for Dave to board with instructions.
They were grabbing breakfast in the busses and then heading over to the hotel to check in. And then lunch at the venue and sound check. Adam had some interviews with Z100 and a local television station and would meet them all later.
“Alright everyone,” Dave began. “Tonight’s a hotel night and tomorrow is a full day off.”
Kris couldn’t wait; A free day in New York City. He hoped they’d go out to a club again. Jason was safely in Los Angeles, so there was no chance he’d show up tonight. Maybe Adam could finally relax and have some fun.
The gang was having a catered lunch on the bus when Adam arrived after his interviews. They went really well and he was feeling happy. They kept the conversation about the show tonight and then Tommy suggested they go out tonight. Kris perked up, but Adam declined. “I better not,” he said.
“Adam, its New York City,” Tommy said, like that settled it. “Tell you what? You come out with us tonight and we’ll go shopping with you tomorrow.” He sat back, proud of himself for the quick suggestion; Adam could never turn down shopping.
Adam looked at Kris who looked like a puppy dog, grinning and nodding his head. How could he resist that face? “Alright, but I get to choose where we go shopping tomorrow.”
“Deal,” Tommy smiled at Adam and turned and winked at Kris.
Just then Dave boarded the bus yelling, “Sound check in twenty.” That meant finish what you’re doing and get inside the venue, now.
“Yeah, on our way,” Tommy and Brian shouted, stuffing a last piece of food in their mouths and grabbing a coke.
Adam hung around for just a few minutes with Kris, grabbing a bite too. “Can you see the show tonight?” He asked Kris.
“Yeah, really? I’d love to, but Dave usually…”
“Dave will be just fine with it. Please?”
“I’d love to,” Kris grinned. He loved watching Adam perform. He was so sexy. Stop it Kris.
“Great, you’ll be on the side of the stage, but that’s where the food is,” he winked, taking a coke from the fridge and then heading out of the bus. “See you tonight, Kris.”
“Can’t wait”
Kris headed back to his bunk to get some shuteye before the show so he could stay up tonight. He couldn’t wait to go out with the guys afterwards. Jason wouldn’t be there to ruin their night this time. He fell asleep fast and dreamed of Adam.
~~~~
The show was incredible. Adam and the guys totally rocked it. Kris stayed off to the side dancing the entire time. A couple of times, Adam sauntered over to his side of the stage and Kris could have sworn that he was singing right to him and he did a couple of moves in his direction that practically caused Kris to lose his balance. He did this one thing during Trespassing, where he actually palming himself through his leather pants and smirking at Kris. Kris was so doomed.
After the show, Adam signed for his fans and then they all boarded the bus for the hotel. Their things were already in their rooms and beds were turned down with little chocolates on the pillows. The guys quickly changed for clubbing and then met in the lobby.
Tonight they were staying close by since it was already later. Kurt had found the perfect place; it was small and had a nice dance floor and a VIP lounge.
The entourage entered the club and again, the manager met them at the door and escorted them to their section. “Thank you”
“Anything I can get you gentlemen, don’t hesitate to ask.”
They were brought a round of drinks a few minutes later and then Kurt and Dillon were on the dance floor. Kris watched them for a minute. They were so cute together. He sort of wished he had that. He glanced over at Adam who was watching them as well. Kris wondered what the man was thinking about, and hoping that it wasn’t his boyfriend back home.
“Want to dance, Kris?” He asked him instead.
“Yeah,” he hoped that didn’t sound too pathetic.
Adam swigged the last of his drink and took Kris’s hand, pulling him along with him. “I like dancing with you, Kris. You’re so pliable”
“I’m what?” Kris giggled.
This time Adam blushed, because yeah, he was thinking that.
They danced for several songs and then a slow one came on. Instead of leaving the dance floor, Adam pulled Kris in tight and let him put his head on Adam’s shoulder. Kris could have sworn he heard the man purr.
After their dance, Kris lifted his head and looked into Adam’s crystal blue eyes. Adam smiled at him but looked away quickly. Kris needed to be careful. He didn’t want to scare Adam away. They were friends, and he was off limits to him; as long as Jason is in the picture. Shut up, Kris.
The music sped up again and Adam released Kris and ground his hips to the music. He was such a sexy dancer.
After that song, they went back to their table for another drink. Tommy and Brian were snickering about something when they returned. “What’s so funny?” Adam asked.
Tommy just shook his head.
“We were just saying how good you two look out there,” Brian offered, to Tommy’s glare.
Kris decided to lighten the mood, “Yeah that was a lot of fun. You’re a great dancer, Adam.”
So are you, Kris, he just smiled in return, sipping his cocktail.
Kurt and Dillon came back to the table, mauling each other along the way. “You two should totally get a room”
“Yeah babe, we should.”
“We’re taking off, guys,” Dillon said, while Kurt sucked on his neck. “Now,” he squealed.
Watching their friends walk away, Adam sighed.
Brian really wanted to say something like, now that’s what a relationship should be like, but Tommy kicked him under the table, knowing exactly what he was thinking.
“How about we all dance?” Tommy suggested instead.
The four friends spent the rest of the night dancing together and drinking and then poured themselves into a cab just before closing time at the club. Good thing they had the next day off.
“I want to take you shopping tomorrow,” Adam slurred to Kris, putting his arm around the smaller man. Kris melted, hoping that he wasn’t making a huge mistake.
Once they arrived at the hotel, Tommy walked Adam to his room, realizing that letting anything happen at this point would be a huge mistake for Adam, but for Kris too. He took on the best friend role, and made sure his buddy did the right thing. “He’s so cute, right?” Adam asked Tommy as they rode the elevator together.
“Yeah man, he is. But what about Jason?”
“Jason?” He thought just for a second, and then sighed. “He’s not here,” he answered sadly.
“Adam?”
“Tommy?” He giggled.
“Can we talk tomorrow? Seriously?”
“We can talk now”
“No, I want your wits about you when we have this conversation.”
“Uh oh, you sound serious,” He stumbled.
Tommy opened the door to Adam’s room and walked the man inside, helping him sit in the bed. “I love you, man. You know that, right?”
“Aw, I love you too, Tommy. But you’re not my type. Kris is totally my type.“ He sat on the bed and allowed Tommy to take off his boots.
“Yeah, Kris is totally your type. So is Jason.”
“Oh yeah, right“
Tommy tucked in his boss, and kissed the side of his cheek. “Sleep tight, man. We’ll see you in the morning.”
“Good night Tommy,” Adam hugged his pillow, his thoughts immediately going to dancing with Kris as sleep took him for the night.
~~~~
Tommy walked down the hall to his own room, just past Kris’s and he stopped. He started to knock on the door, but then decided against it. Just then, the door opened and Kris appeared, “Tommy?”
“Yeah, I was just getting boss man into bed. He had just one too many.”
“I could tell. He’s cuddly when he’s drunk.”
“Yeah, about that. Um…”
Kris stopped him. “Don’t worry; I won’t take advantage of him. I really like Adam and this is a great job.”
Tommy understood his meaning and nodded. “I like you, Kris.” Then the turned to walk away, waving at the other man. “See you in the morning.
When Adam says shopping, he means it.”
“Ok,” Kris giggled. “I’ll be ready.”
Kris closed the door and went back inside, getting into bed. His roommate, one of the other crew members was fast asleep. He quietly used the bathroom and then got into bed. He’d had such a wonderful night. He wondered if Tommy and Brian hadn’t had been there if anything would have happened. “No, it wouldn’t”, he said out loud.
“Huh?” His roommate shifted in his sleep.
Kris got under the covers and closed his eyes. He still had tomorrow to look forward to.
