Warnings: underage sex, m/m sex, mention of underage prostitution and child abuse/neglect.

Summary: Kris has been in the same foster family since he was three. He's a very happy, well adjusted child, but beginning to feel different. Adam is a troubled teen, in and out of group and foster homes and on the street, forced to do things, no child should ever have to go through. This is the story of them. A Kradam Love Story.

A/N: This is a lot different that anything else I've written, there will be some angst. It will break your heart at times, it did mine, but bear with me, it definitely get's better and happier and eventually sexier.

I have no idea how long it will be, at least 40-50 chapters. I'll try and update at least twice a week.

Chapter 33.3

As the doctor was leaving, the police officers arrived in the room. “Kristopher Allen-Martin?”

Kris’s eyes got wide. “Yes”, he answered, terrified.

“Officer, you’re scaring him.” Pam ran to his side.

“I’m sorry, ma’am, but we need to ask him some questions.”

“Its ok mom”, Kris reassured her.

“Kris, we need to ask you what you remember of the attack.”

“Um, nothing really.”

The officers looked at him impatiently, almost like they didn’t believe him.

Pam and Adam just glared at them and then looked sympathetically at Kris. “Just take your time, baby.”

“Wait, I remember baseball practice. Ethan went home early from school, not feeling well or some shit, so he wasn’t at practice. We were going to walk to the diner together afterwards.” Kris rubbed the back of his neck, trying to remember. He was still a little foggy from the pain medication. “After practice, I went back into school to put away my gear. I didn’t want to walk with all that stuff. By the time I came out, everyone else had left, so I started walking alone.” Kris looked up at him mom, apologetically. She nodded for him to continue. “There’s a shortcut through the woods and I was walking…”

Kris stopped and looked up at Adam with sad brown eyes. Adam moved closer and held him tightly. “I’m tired, Adam.”

“Officers, can we finish this later?” Mom pleaded.

“Actually, just a few more questions, and then we’ll leave, ma’am. “

“Come on, baby, you’re almost finished”, Adam encouraged him.

“I was walking and then I heard noises like branches breaking behind me. I tried to walk faster and then the noises got louder.” Kris was holding his ribs. It hurt to breath. Adam could see that he was in pain, and clicked his PCA for him. Once the medication began to work, Kris continued.

“Then I heard voices, whispering. Before I could turn around, I was grabbed from behind and punched in the face.” Kris was breathing heavily. “That’s all I remember.” Kris shook his head. “I’m sorry.”

“They must have knocked you out, before… Ok, I think that’s all. Thank you for your time. Here’s my card, if you remember anything else Kris, please call me.” The one officer said, handing the card to Pam.

“Thank you, Mrs. Martin, I know that’s hard to hear, but if we have any chance of catching these punks…”

“I know.”

Shortly afterwards, the nurse came in to get Kris ready to be transferred to his room. They moved his IV bag to a portable stand and transferred Kris onto the rolling bed. Adam walked along side Kris, while Pam and Ron followed behind.

They got him settled in and Adam stayed with him while Pam and Ron talked in the hallway. “We’d better call the kids, they should be home tomorrow.” As they were talking, they saw Amanda walking very fast towards them. Pam ran up to her and hugged her friend. “Thank you so much for coming, I know that Kris isn’t your client, but…”

“You’re Adam’s family and my friend. Of course I came. How is he?”

“Adam?”

“Kris.”

“Oh”, Pam laughed nervously. “He looks pretty bad, a couple of broken ribs…”

“I’m sorry.”

“He was attacked because he’s gay, Amanda.” She dropped her head onto Amanda’s shoulders and let herself be comforted. They stood in the doorway, just like that for several minutes.

Adam hadn’t even noticed her yet. All of his attention was on Kris. He was sleeping again, and Adam was carding his hands through his hair, whispering ‘I love you’ in his ear.

“Adam is attentive as always, I see.” Amanda noticed as she walked into the room. “Hi Adam”, she said thoughtfully.

“Amanda”, Adam left Kris’s side just for a moment to hug her. “It’s all my fault”, he said through tears.

“What honey? This is not your fault, Adam.” He put her arms around Adam and held him tight.

“Yes it is, I should have insisted on picking him up after practice instead of letting him walk alone.”

“Oh honey, you couldn’t have known.” Adam just shook his head. He was trying to be strong for Kris, but he had so much guilt. He let her go and walked back over to Kris. Amanda followed him and looked at the sleeping boy.

“The doctor suggested that he talk to someone about the attack when he’s a little stronger”, Pam said to Amanda. “Could you please talk to him or at least recommend someone?”

“Of course, I’ll talk to him in a couple of days and then give you a couple of names that I’ll recommend.”

Pam nodded her head. Kris began to stir, and the pain was bothering him again. Adam pushed his clicker again. “Kris baby, it’s right here. You need to do this yourself when I’m not here.”

“Hi there Kris”, Amanda sat by Kris.

“Hi Amanda. Will you please convince Adam this isn’t his fault?” He looked sheepishly at Adam. “I could hear two you talking”, he admitted. “You had no idea that I’d be walking home alone. It’s my fault, I should have called someone.”

Pam spoke up, “Kris, it’s no one’s fault, however, I want you to promise me that you won’t walk alone, not now, not until they catch…”

“I won’t let him out of my sight”, Adam promised.

Ron came back into the room. He had just spoken to both Chelsey and Brent. “They both give Kris their love and will see him tomorrow. “ Dad said, coming inside the room, to hug his youngest son.

Several minutes later, the nurse came in to check on Kris and let everyone know that visiting hours were almost up. Amanda promised to visit Kris when he came home.

Pam and Adam both wanted to stay with him, but the nurse insisted that he needed rest and talked them into leaving. “You can come back first thing in the morning.”

“But I stayed with Adam when he was in here”, she tried to convince the nurse.

“Mom, I’m fine, I’ll see you tomorrow. “

“Well, OK. Remember to breath, sweetie. It’s really important.”

“Mom, that why the nurses are here.”

“Kris, give me your hand”, Adam put his hand on the PCA button. “Don’t forget to use this, baby.”

Kris laughed at his over protective mom and boyfriend. “Alright, both of you, I’ll be fine.”

They all kissed Kris goodnight, Adam a little longer, of course. Then they reluctantly left his room. “Love you Kris.”

“I love you too, now go.” He insisted, but with a smile on his face.

Kris awoke sometime around midnight with his stomach and lower back hurting, really badly. He called for the nurse. She gave him some stronger pain medication to help him get back to sleep, but made him do some heavy breathing first. She explained that this was to prevent pneumonia. Then she made a note of the location of the pain on his chart.

In the early morning, a tech came to get Kris for some additional testing. Because of his complaints of lower back and abdominal pain, they wanted to check for internal injuries.

When Pam and Adam arrived in the morning, Kris was not in his room. Adam panicked. Pam went to the nurse’s station to find out where he was.

“He’s having some tests done, ma’am”, said the girl behind the desk.

“What kind of tests?”

“They want to rule out any internal injuries, ma’am.” The color drained from Pam’s face.

“It’s routine, for someone in his condition”, she assured Pam.

They waited in Kris’s room for him to come back, and when he did, he was sleeping again. “He’s sleeping a lot, isn’t he?” Adam asked the nurse.

“Oh honey, that’s normal. We didn’t let him sleep though the night, so he’s probably just tired.” Adam looked confused. “We woke him up periodically to make him deep breath”, she continued.

Adam seemed to believe her and tried to relax. He stayed right by Kris’s bed until he woke up. “Morning, baby”, Adam kissed his wakening boyfriend.

Kris smiled and kissed him back. “Morning.”

Once the results from Kris’s morning tests had come back, the doctor came in to talk to Kris and the family.

“Well, the bad news is that Kris has a slightly bruised Kidney, which is what was causing the lower back and abdominal pain last night.”

“Pain last night? I knew I should have stayed with you, Kris”, Pam was visibly upset.

“No you shouldn’t have mom. You would have just worried all night long and probably not let me sleep at all”, Kris said lovingly to his mom.

“The good news”, the doctor continued, “is that there are no other internal injuries, and this one is minor, so he won’t require surgery. However, we do need to monitor him for a couple of more days.”

The doctor continued talking to them about Kris’s treatment plan, when a thought popped into Kris’s mind.

“Baseball”, Kris said suddenly.

“No baseball, not for a couple of months”, the doctor broke the bad news.

“Sorry, baby.”

“It’s ok. I still have the play to look forward to. I can still do that, can’t I?”

“You need to take it easy for a quite a while, Kris. I would recommend while the ribs are healing, for Kris to have a tutor, instead of going to school, for just a couple of weeks“, he addressed Pam.

“Ok, thank you doctor.”

“Kris, I’ll come back later this afternoon. It’s very important that you keep deep breathing, but you also need fluids, lots of them, for the kidney injury.”

They all nodded and watched the doctor leave.

“I’m staying with you tonight. No arguments this time”, Pam stood her ground.

During the day, plenty of Kris and Adam’s friends came to visit him. They all promised to ‘get that asshole’, for him. Kris made everyone promise that they’d let the police take care of Ray. He didn’t want anyone getting into trouble.

Chelsey and Brent arrived in the afternoon too, and came to see their brother. He was fussed over all day, and actually couldn’t wait to be alone for a while.

Adam never left his side, but Pam made him go him with Chelsey and eat dinner. He could come back in the evening.

While he was gone, Kris got another visitor. Ray.

Kris looked at him with wide eyes and reached for his call button. “What do you want? To see your handiwork?

“Um. The police questioned me and all of my friends. I want you to know, that I may not like you guys, but I’d never do this. I swear. I just wanted you to know that. And I’m sorry.”

At that moment, Pam came back into the room with a nurse and spotted Ray. “Oh hello, are you another friend of Kris’s?

“Mom, that’s Ray. He says he didn’t do this.”

“Well, we’ll let the police handle that.” She continued staring at Ray.

“Anyway, I just wanted to tell you that.” And Ray walked out of the room.

Kris realized that he’d been holding his breath the whole time. When he released, he was in a lot of pain. He reached for his clicker.

“That was really strange, Kris. Are you alright?”

“Yeah, why would he come here if he did it?”

“Well, to make you believe that he didn’t”.

“Should I tell Adam?”

“No, not while you’re in here.” Pam sat on the chair next to Kris and held his hand. All I want you to worry about is getting better, sweetie. Adam’s so worried about you; don’t give him anything else to dwell on.”

“Ok Mom.”

“Oh, here he is now”, Pam said as Adam walked into the room with the rest of the family.

“Baby, is everything alright?” Adam could tell that Kris looked upset.

“Yeah, it is now.”
