This is the story of them.  A Kradam Love Story.

A/N: Brotherly Love, I struggled with this name, but kept going back to it because it fits.

This is a lot different that anything else I've written, a lot of angst.  It will break your heart at times, it did mine, but bear with me, it definitely get's better and happier and eventually sexier.

I have no idea how long it will be, at least 40+ chapters.   I'll try and update twice a week.

I hope you enjoy it, please comment, it makes me happy.

A very special Thank you to wizardesslyn, for all of your help, I know I bug the crap out of you, lol.

NOte:  I do not pretend to be an expert in the foster care or child services system.  This is pure fiction.  Thx.

Prologue Part 2 - Adam's Story

It was a rainy, gloomy day in Fort Smith, Arkansas, perfect day for a funeral. Why did it always rain during funerals? The church wasn’t crowded. It wasn’t empty, either. Elizabeth Krandal’s friends were there. Her pastor and other church goers were there. Her nephew Adam was there. Adam’s social worker was there, also.

After the service, they all walked in the cold, drizzling rain to the grave site for the burial. The preacher said a few more words as they lowered Adam’s last relative; that he knew of anyway, into the ground.

There were no tears shed. Adam had only known his aunt for a short time. Once the state had located her and made her his legal guardian. That was only six months ago. He had thought that maybe, finally, he’d found a home. But, once again, Adam found himself alone in the world with no one to care about him. He didn’t care, not anymore. He’d go back to what he knew. He’d survive. He knew that.

Once the service was over, the social worker walked over to Adam. “It’s time to go, sweetie”, she said with a smile that said she cared, but Adam knew better.

“Where am I going this time?” He asked with a bitter taste in his mouth.

“Group home in Little Rock”, she replied.

“Arkansas?” he spat. “Why can’t I just go back to California?”

“Because, Adam, you are now in the Arkansas child services system. We can’t send you out of state unless it’s with another relative. I explained that before to you.”

“Yeah, well it still sucks.” He said looking down at the ground. “I liked it better there.”

“Really, Adam? Living on the streets was better?”

“At least it was warm.” He snorted.

She almost smiled.

They got into her car and began the two plus hour trip to Little Rock. Adam flicked around the channels on the radio until he found an acceptable station playing heavy metal.

He sat back and closed his eyes and tried to remember better times. He just couldn’t.

Adam Lambert was born In Hollywood, California. He never knew his dad. He figured that his mom didn’t really either, just a one night stand, mistake, whatever…

His mom lived in a one bedroom studio apartment over a bar restaurant in downtown Hollywood. She worked as a waitress in that same bar part time, but she wasn’t exactly the most reliable employee.

Leila Lambert prostituted to make drug money. She couldn’t give up that life when he had Adam. So, he grew up in the bar.   Watching her wait tables and talking to the other employees. When mom went out at night, she would leave him with Joan who lived next door in the same building. Joan was a widow and loved watching Adam.

The first time Leila was busted for prostitution and had to spend the night in jail was the first time that child services came to visit. Little Adam was only four years old at the time. Leila got him back right away, and tried, really tried to be better, but a couple of years later, she was busted for selling drugs, and he was taken away from her again.

That’s the first time that Adam was in the foster care system. Adam was immediately placed in a home that had several other foster children. He soon found out why. The parents were very poor and not educated at all. They had foster kids as a form of income. Unfortunately for the children, most of the money they collected to care for them never reached them. The children never got new clothes, except the oldest ones. They just recycled them for the rest of the children. They didn’t starve them or anything, but the meals were sparse. Adam was in that home for six months until the family was busted for violations involving misuse of funds and child endangerment.

Adam’s mom was still in prison, so he was placed in a private home with another family. They had an older child with disabilities and they also needed the extra money that a foster child would bring. They however, were much more careful. Adam was at least clothed and fed properly.

It was a few months later and his mom got out of prison and wanted him back. It took a few months, but they allowed Leila custody of Adam again. He was now eight years old. He had a social worker visit every month to check on them, but as long as she stayed out of jail, they allowed her to keep him. The next few years went by with only a couple of other incidents. Adam was in school, and Joan would continue watching him at night, or he would spend time in the bar. By the time Adam was eleven, the owner let him help in the back. Adam enjoyed this, because he got paid.

He also liked watching all of the patrons. The bar had dancers on the weekends, and Adam liked to watch them dance. He was able to go back stage and hang out with them. They all liked Adam, he was cute. But, he wasn’t interested in girls. No, he was more interested in the men that came to watch them. Adam’s mom soon realized this as well, and decided to make that work for her. About time that kid brought in some money.

Adam lost his virginity to an eager John, who took him to the back room and had his way with him when he was only twelve years old. He later saw the man give his mom a wad of cash.

He now understood.

Adam spent the couple of years as a prostitute. When he refused, Leila would lock him out and he’d spend the night on the street. That’s when he met other male prostitutes. That’s when he met Tommy. He and Tommy became good friends, they helped each other. They also became lovers.

One night, Adam was on the street and he watched Tommy get into a car with a guy. Tommy looked a little frightened, but pocketed the cash and got in anyway. That was the last time Adam ever saw Tommy. He heard a few days later that Tommy had been found beaten to death and dropped in a field.

Adam came home crying. He cried for Tommy, for himself, and even for his mom. Leila came home that night drunk and she’d been using. She laughed at Adam for crying, for caring.

That was the night that Adam ran away. He was just fourteen. He was picked up by child services and put in a group home. Leila tried to get him back, but he didn’t want to go this time. He told the social worker everything, and he was legally taken from her for the last time.

Adam stayed in the group home while they tried to find a foster family willing to take in a teen, especially with problems. He was placed for a brief time with a family that had another teenage son. However, the kid was questioning his sexuality, and the parents caught him and Adam having sex and threw Adam out of the house.

Adam found himself back on the streets. He went looking for his mom, but found out that she had died of a drug overdose a couple of months ago. Adam was alone. The bar was willing to let him have Leila’s room above the bar, but he had to pay for it. He went back to the streets.

Adam was picked up for prostitution just a few weeks later and put in jail. Since he had no one to bail him out, he stayed there until they could make more permanent arrangements. He didn’t want to go to another foster family, and he didn’t want to be in a group home. Adam was angry and sad and alone.

That’s when Elizabeth Krandal came to see him. She was Leila’s sister and had come out for the funeral and had stayed in town to finish some business with Leila’s will, not that there was anything of worth except for Adam. She hadn’t even known about him until then. Elizabeth came to visit Adam in jail. She paid his bail, and then went to his hearing with him. Elizabeth was given full custody of Adam. However, she lived in Arkansas.

Adam flew with his Aunt to his new home. She enrolled him in school and bought him new clothes. Adam’s aunt wasn’t married and she didn’t have any children, so it was just the two of them.

Adam had a social worker assigned to him in Arkansas because of his situation in California. She visited him every month, just to check on his progress.   She was pleased that he seemed to be doing well in school and had even made a couple of friends.

He turned fifteen that January, and his aunt had taken him out to dinner. It was the best birthday he’d ever had. Sad, really; his mother had never even acknowledged his birthdays before. He’d always spent that day in the bar.

Adam was beginning to bond with his aunt. She was trying so hard, and he needed someone stable in his life. They helped each other. Adam thought that he finally had found a real home.

Until he came home from school one day and found his aunt on the floor, unconscious. He called 911, but by the time the paramedics got her to the hospital, she was dead.

Adam’s thoughts came back to the present. He was being driven to another group home, in a place that he didn’t know. He’d be enrolled in a new school where he didn’t know anyone. ‘Great, I’ll be the new gay kid, again”, he sighed.

He looked over at the social worker who smiled at him and then turned her gaze back to the road. “We’ll be there soon, Adam”, she said.

Adam just nodded and looked out the window. He refused to shed a tear. He’d be fine. He always was.
